   2009 GARLIC VARIETIES

SOFTNECK GARLIC

Chinese Pink
Very early season.  When fall planted, this extra-early-maturing variety will put fresh garlic back into your favorite recipes a whopping 4-6 weeks ahead of almost all others.  You will be harvesting Chinese Pink in late May to early June.  Stores for 4-5 months.  Chinese Pink has a nice mellow
flavor that everyone can enjoy.

Western Rose
Late Season.  A larger relative of Silver Rose, this is one of the longest-storing garlics and a great choice for braiding.  Outer bulb covering is white, clove wrappers have  pink and rose stripes.  Smaller inner cloves are surrounded by 7-10 cloves for a total of 12-15 cloves per head.  Sharp garlic flavor.  Cloves per pound:  90-120

SUSANVILLE
Mid-Season.  Considered an improved selection of California Early.  This popular softneck is white-skinned with some occasional pink.  It is also one of our best varieties for roasting.  The mild but true garlic flavor is a hit with garlic fans.  Susanvilles large, flattened cloves are an impressive size at 11-13 cloves per head.  Cloves per pound:  55-75.  Good for braiding and stores for 6-9 months

INCHILLIUM RED
Mid-Season.  Inchillium Red is a national taste test winner in the softneck division.  This mild flavored garlic is great baked and blended with mashed potatoes.  This large, top-quality softneck was discovered on the Colville Indian Reservation in Northern Washington.  Stores very well for 6-9 months.  Cloves per pound:  45-65.  Cloves per head:  9-11.

2009 HARDNECKS

Ontario Purple Trillium

Early-Season.  Just like the Trillium flower it is one of the first plants to bloom in the spring, Ontario Purple Trillium is one of the earliest garlics to mature.  Unlike the delicate and fragile flower, our garlic packs a ferocious punch!  This variety is a veritable garlic inferno--one of the hottest we've tried.  So, if you're searching for an early maturing, scorching garlic, look no further.  Cloves per head: 8-12  Cloves per pound: 67-100.

Chesnok Red
Late-Season.  Characterized by its beautiful purple stripes, this Middle Eastern hardneck comes to us from Shvelisis, Georgia.  One of our best all-around cooking varieties because it is full-bodied flavor lingers and is retained after cooking.  Especially a nice choice for baking as it has a very creamy texture.  Easy to peel.  Stores 4-6 months.

Fireball
Mid-Season.  Although the colorful purple wrapper earned Fireball its name, it does have a spicy flavor that's rich and spirited.  Originally from Poland, the bulbs boast 7-8 plump, red-skinned cloves.  An excellent choice for seasoning soups or meats.  It also has powerful, natural antibiotic properties for added health benefits.

Siberian
Mid-Season.  A top-notched producer in cold climates, Siberian deserves consideration from all northern gardeners.  This clean, medium-to-strong flavored garlic will warm your soul on the coldest winter evenings.  It is prized for having a very high allicin content.  Allicin supports normal cholesterol levels, boosts the immune system and enhances circulation.

Kazakhstan

Early-Season.  Proudly bearing the name of its homeland, Kazakhstan belongs to a group of older varieties from which commercial garlic has probably originated.  The sturdy tall plants mature 3-4 weeks earlier than mid-season varieties like Music.  The white skinned bulbs have 7-8 large full bodied cloves each.  Cloves per pound:  59-68

Music

Mid-Season.  Music hits the top of the charts when it comes to yields.  White skinned with just a blush of pink, this garlic makes big cloves that typically number 5-6 per head and 25-30 per pound and are easy to peel.  The taste is a medium hot, true garlic flavor that lasts for a long time.  Music will store 9 months to a year.  Very cold tolerant.

Premium Northern White
Late-Season.  Finally a good strong garlic in a large clove!  The heritage of this unique garlic can be directly traced to northern Germany.   It could possibly be the most cold hardy variety known.  It's a potent hardneck that is easy to peel.  Its large clove size makes it a great all-purpose garlic, especially good for baking.

Asian Tempest
Mid-Spring.  Early harvesting for a hardneck( late spring to early summer) this medium to large flat bulb garlic has a white sheath with strongly striped purple veins and has brown to red skin.  Hot, strong taste when eaten raw but has a sweeter taste when baked.  Easy to peel and stores 5 to 8 months.  6 to 8 cloves per bulb.

Bavarian Purple
Mid-season.  Strong garlic taste with a equally strong aroma.  This garlic is for true garlic lovers who like heat with their garlic.   The heat builds rapidly but dissipates quickly without the after taste.  Cloves are arranged in a single layer around the stalk.  Has a extensive root system which allows this garlic to grow well in hard winter regions.  Stores 9-12 months.

Purple Glazer
Mid-season.  A very beautiful garlic, with its soft clove wrappers stained in brilliant rich purple touched with a little gold and silver. This garlic has a strong flavor but not hot, no after taste and is great for baking.  Easy to peel.  Stores 6 to 8 months

Culinary Garlic
A smaller bulb but packed with all the flavor of our seed garlic.  Culinary Garlic is much easier to cook with because of its smaller size.  Culinary Garlic is garlic that does not meet my seed stock size but it is still a nice size bulb.  You can even plant culinary garlic size bulbs and it will grow but will not achieve the same size as seed garlic.  Culinary garlic will be shipped starting in September.
